How old can a child sit in the front seat in Texas?
There is no law in Texas specifies when a child can sit in the front seat. However, the law requires that all child safety seat systems must be used according to owner's manual. Most vehicle manufacturers' require and recommend keeping all children 12 years and younger in the back seat.
Children 3 years and over, up to 135cm tall must sit in the rear and use an adult seat belt. Children aged 12 years or more, or over 135cm tall, may travel the front, but must wear the seat belt.
Current law requires children younger than six years of age to be properly secured in a child passenger safety seat system during the operation of a motor vehicle and not to be seated in the front passenger's seat.
